Catalogue for the "Femmes dévoilées & Hommes en fleurs, un autre visage de l’Afghanistan" exhibition at the Jean-Honoré Fragonard Museum in Grasse, from 14 June to 12 October 2025. Photographs Fatimah Hossaini and Oriane Zérah, Text Charlotte Urbain Despite being bruised, ravaged, exploited on all sides and bereaved without interruption for so many decades, Afghanistan is nevertheless a stunning country. Yet much is hidden, and the burqa is the most well-known symbol of this repression. Since the Taliban took back powner on 15 August 2021, they have continued to make women invisible, denying them a face, a voice, and an education. The exhibition brings together the work of two photographers - one Afghan, the other French - and unveils Afghan women in front of men surrounded by flowers. The goal is to honour beauty wherever it hides, to reveal a different side to the Afghans. The catalogue conjures up an imaginary world, a dream where all 'flowers' are permitted, open and free, a world where men no longer carry weapons and women can sing and dance.
